Carlin’s Felipe Nasr and celebrated on the podium this morning after race two of this weekend’s Cooper Tires British Formula Three Championship at Rockingham. Team mates Jazeman Jaafar, Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Huertas finished P4, P5 and P6 respectively while Rupert Svendsen-Cook finished tenth and Jack Harvey fourteenth.
With the second race of the weekend being the reverse grid Kevin Magnussen lined up second with his team mate Felipe Nasr just behind him in third, Carlos Huertas in fourth, Jazeman Jaafar started in fifth, Jack Harvey in sixth and Rupert Svendsen-Cook in seventh.
The day started overcast and rainy before the cars even hit the track and, as was the case with yesterday’s racing, there was a slight breeze around the circuit too. Although the downpour had finished as the lights went out the track was very wet and rain was still lingering in the air.
Magnussen got away cleanly off the line and fell into place behind Scott Pye, Nasr ended the first lap behind the young Dane in third. In the wet start both Harvey and Svendsen-Cook lost out falling down the order. Meanwhile Jaafar was making good progress through the field and had overtaken Buller. Magnussen had a small moment which elevated Nasr and Jaafar up to second and third, however he re-joined the pack in fourth position. Jaafar soon started to charge towards Nasr however the championship leader had an answer and maintained the gap well.
Heurtas had also made progress through the field and took sixth position off Menasheh Idafar on lap six.
Nasr scored the fastest lap of the race on lap 12 and took the chequered flag in second position. On the last lap Magnussen went for a move on Jaafar and got past after cutting the chicane to finish in third place however a post-race penalty pushed him down to 5th leaving Jaafar in 4th after Buller found a way through in the unfolding drama. Huertas remained in sixth position as the flag fell and Svendsen-Cook took the final point in tenth position. After an unlucky start Harvey finished the race in fourteenth.
The final race of the weekend get’s underway this afternoon at 14:50 local time.
